While in metropolis the government passed the attacks, the class struggle sharpens in the settlements. The meeting, a strategic challenge to imperialism in the Indian Ocean. The Discussion Jerf with three activists who are fighting for new opportunities for workers to organize Reunion.
What the Jerf?
Jerf means "Young Emigrants Reunion in France". We preferred the term "emigrant" than that of an expatriate or exiled. We know that this term does not like in general, including in activist circles. Yet when we arrive in France, we know the same problems as all other immigrants, even the undocumented. In truth, we do not feel similar to any metropolis. When we arrive in France, there is nobody to help us or greet us. Jerf composition is diverse, including students, unemployed workers ... Sometimes battered women who flee their husbands in France. But Jerf is not an association, our goal is to organize people politically.
You should know that there is a very strong propaganda led by MEDEF local incentives to move to the Reunion "metropolis .
What are your goals?
We fight for self-determination of peoples and the establishment of a socialist state, so that people can really know what it is socialism. Even though today, people believe that it is "disgusting," we are fighting for are better than wealth redistribution, and that this is not just "big white" who benefit. Finally Jerf principles, it is self-organization, internationalism, anti-colonial struggles and unity. It should open a sort of international front, because the force of imperialism, is that there is no unity in all the colonies. We should do that from here. One goal of Jerf is also "radicalize" the Reunion who live here, that is to say, the anti-colonial awareness on the issue.
The precarious and "mobility" that it is difficult for us to organize ourselves. Also today, many students who came to study "can afford". All these are problems for meetings to organize. Because of our isolation, we found clear slogans and demands of our organization, while remaining vague about its very nature.
Where is the class struggle currently meeting?
In recent years, the meeting follows the advice of the OECD and sends more students to train and develop future managers meeting. Marie-Luce Penchard has already prepared the lines of "development": buildings / restaurants / tourism. Working conditions, and life has deteriorated. The unemployment rate reached 37.6%, an estimated 100 to 120 000 illiterate adults and 400 000 people benefiting from CMU. In addition the region is increasingly militarized accentuating the already existing tensions. You should know that the first ten soldiers 'French' died in Afghanistan, 3 were meetings (including a young man barely 19 years) and a Maori, that is to say, a native of Mayotte.
