Sub pairs of wings and behind the faces often kind, reveal themselves in complex and diverse beings: angels, archangels, cherubim, seraphim, messengers, watchmen or guards, musicians, angels ... They follow a celestial hierarchy. But not everyone is wise, as we would like the children are, they can become rebellious and demons.
Where are they? Say them texts, including the Bible, and archeology? It is to these fundamental questions that this special issue of World Bible first wants to meet.
As evidenced by the many images painted or carved thousands of years, angels cross cultures and strive to remain very present among us. Tell them that the artists who gave them a form, often admirable? Through seventeen selected images, seventeen masterpieces should I say, Eliane and Régis Burnet we reveal the secret of these representations, each with its uniqueness and its message.
Eliane Burnet is director of the department of philosophy at the University of Savoie, where she teaches aesthetics, and Régis Burnet, Normale, Associate, Doctor of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. He currently teaches communication at the IUT of Montreuil (Paris VIII University).
