21th Symposium of Romanesque Issoire: The weather in the Romanesque period

The symposium will Romanesque Issoire time this year on the Romanesque period. The theme will be addressed broadly and from many different angles as possible.

The Scientific Committee Conference Issoire, comprised of Jean-Luc Fray, Professor of Medieval History at the University Blaise-Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand, Jullian Martine, senior lecturer at the University of Grenoble, and Annie Regondi , lecturer at the Université Blaise-Pascal Clermont-Ferrand, which met November 30, 2010 was arrested on the 21st conference organized by Land Romanesque Auvergne. After Murals Romance, Romance Europe, modern Europe and Romanesque Pilgrimage , Town and Country in Roman times , the Invention of Roman art in the nineteenth century , Madonna and Romanesque cult and representations , Shrines and headboards in the Romanesque, Romanesque capital, Stained Glass novel, the Habitat Romanesque , in ancient Roman art, the Apocalypse in Roman times, the Image of Women in Romanesque , Ornament in Roman times , Light in the Romanesque period, the color in architecture in the Romanesque period, the color in the decorative arts in the Romanesque period, Water during the Romanesque period, heavenly food, foods of this world in Roman times, holidays and celebrations in the Roman era, we offer for this 21th session: Time to Romanesque period .

It will be held at Issoire (Auvergne, Puy de Dome) Friday 21 and Saturday, October 22, 2011.

The panelist Issoire last twenty years has seen a succession of many French and foreign researchers like Xavier Barral i Altet, Christian Davy, Alain Erlande-Brandenburg-Pierre Garrigou Grandchamp, Miljenko Jurkovic, Jacek Kowalski, Victor Lassalle, Jacqueline Leclercq-Marx, Jean-Michel Leniaud Guy Lobrichon, Anne Prache, Nicolas Reveyron, Daniel Russo, Alain Salamagne, Eliane Vergnolle, Pierre Vaisse, Giovanna Valenzano, John Wirth, etc..

The Conference Proceedings are published regularly in the Journal of Auvergne , member of the Alliance University of Auvergne, disseminating research from both universities of Clermont-Ferrand.

As usual, we expect papers addressing the topic: The weather in Romanesque of the most varied angles and from many different approaches possible:

  • religious holidays as secular and liturgical celebrations as seen through the normative, narrative, iconography and archeology, will find their place.
  • We would also like aspects of the notions of duration, cycle, continuity, rupture, rhythm, progression and regression, memory, eternity, can be considered.
  • The chronology as far as time, work schedules and computer and representation will be discussed, as are the zodiac, the works for months, allegories of the months and seasons.
  • written or figurative representation of the past, with its share of imagination, can be treated.
  • Finally, the problem of dating, its methods and the evolution of how to approach this element of our disciplines, as well as any other aspect of historiography will also be welcome.

Travel, meals and housing for communicating are supported by Terres Romanes Auvergne. The publication of the proceedings is provided by the University Alliance. A trip Sunday, October 23 will also be offered.

  • February 15, 2011: submission of final texts for publication. (We would be grateful if you agree to participate in the conference, kindly now anticipate this constraint in your schedule).
  • October 2011: publication of Acts.
